— The free event rolls into the city on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Art Deco Welcome Center —
Miami Beach, FL – With its one-of-a-kind Beachwalk and miles of green bike lanes, Miami Beach has become a cyclist’s dream. But not everyone is aware of the rules of the road. Residents and visitors are invited to attend the city’s free Micromobility Town Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 9 to gain a better understanding of safety practices and local laws pertaining to bicycles and other micromobility devices. The hybrid event will take place from 6-7 p.m. in the Art Deco Welcome Center at 1001 Ocean Drive or can be accessed via Zoom (meeting ID: 848 2519 3412).
The event is being sponsored by Miami Beach Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt, who will be joined by the city’s Director of Transportation and representatives of the Miami Beach Police Department. Bhatt, who has been working on micromobility issues since she took office, plans to use this event to update residents on the progress made so far, clarify some rules of the road, and share what’s coming next.
“We are very proud that Miami Beach has become one of the most bicycle-friendly destinations in the United States with the recent addition of our more than 8-mile Beachwalk and the future Baywalk,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Tanya K. Bhatt. “While our city offers over 38 miles of bicycle lanes and over 10 miles of shared-use paths, we are working to make getting around on bikes and other devices safer for all involved.”
The city plans to distribute free bicycle helmets at the event while supplies last and register bicycles with the Miami Beach Police Department. The free bicycle registration program is meant to serve as a deterrent to thieves and help police recover bicycles in the event they are lost or stolen.
“Safety is our top priority in Miami Beach. Whether you’re walking, biking, or using a scooter, everyone deserves to feel protected on our streets and sidewalks,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “By setting clear rules and enforcing them we are making sure our public spaces remain safe, welcoming, and accessible for residents and visitors.”
Miami-Dade County’s Bike 350 and the Florida Department of Transportation’s Community Safety team will also be present to provide eventgoers with information.
