Miami Beach, FL – The City of Miami Beach and its Hispanic Affairs Committee will mark the birth of Cuban national hero José Martí on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. The ceremony will take place near the José Martí monument at 21 Street and Collins Avenue to celebrate the continuing legacy of Martí’s contributions to freedom, independence and human rights.

“José Martí symbolizes the enduring fight for freedom,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Venezuela has hope, and Martí’s legacy continues to inspire the Venezuelan and Cuban people—and all who believe in democracy and human dignity.”

The José Martí event offers older generations a chance to reflect on Martí’s life and accomplishments, while younger generations may be discovering his accomplishments for the first time.

Complimentary cafecito and pastelitos will be served at the event courtesy of the Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department.
