First Elected: 2023
Steven Meiner is the 39th Mayor of Miami Beach and is known as the “Law and Order Mayor” for his proactive resolve to enhancing public safety, improving the quality of life for residents, and fostering government transparency. Following a successful tenure as City Commissioner (2019-2023), Steven Meiner was decisively elected as Mayor in November 2023, and was reelected in November 2025. His track record as mayor includes a 19% reduction in total major crimes in 2025 and a revamped municipal prosecution team, achieving impressive success rates that increased from 8% in 2021 to a 92% success rate today. His administration has also seen historic lows in Miami Beach’s homeless count.
Mayor Meiner has spearheaded new law and order measures to combat street-level drug dealing and curb dangerous biker/bicyclist groups, and implemented policies that led to two back-to-back successful Spring Breaks, ending chaotic activity in the city. Mayor Meiner's initiatives have also led to a substantial increase in police visibility through expanded foot and bike patrols, outdoor roll calls, and officers spending more time outside their vehicles. His administration is actively leveraging new technology, including the Axon Fusus Platform for real-time integration of citywide camera systems and license plate readers, and the deployment of GPS dart tracking as an alternative to high-speed chases.
For the first time in recent history, the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) reached full staffing and, under the mayor’s first term, successfully integrated the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) and the Drone as First Responder program. Mayor Meiner’s bold leadership also protects residents from harassment by protesters through enforcement of time, place and manner legislation, while safeguarding free speech. Mayor Meiner's administration is equally focused on smart development and infrastructure resilience by now requiring a 6/7 supermajority Commission vote for Floor Area Ratio (FAR) changes, safeguarding against overdevelopment. His administration has also streamlined the permit review process. Other priorities involve moving along critical infrastructure projects throughout the city; overhauling water and sewer systems that protect property values; implementing projects that fortify the city, protect Biscayne Bay, and ensure sustainable growth; and launching a water taxi system in Miami Beach that connects to Miami and alleviates traffic challenges.
Mayor Meiner has dedicated the majority of his professional career as an attorney. After practicing law in New York City with prestigious international firms Dewey Ballantine and Mayer Brown, he moved to Miami Beach where he served as an Enforcement Attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). He now holds a senior role in the private sector as a Senior Executive at Farkas Capital Management, LLC, the Manager of reslLience fund, LP, and as general partner of reslLience fund GP, LLC. Mayor Meiner was recently appointed inaugural Chair of the Jewish Mayors Association, of the Combat Antisemitism Movement.
He earned his J.D. Cum Laude from Brooklyn Law School and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Brooklyn College. As an Orthodox Jew, Mayor Meiner and his wife Shanyn are raising their two children, Matisyahu and Michal, in Mid-Beach. As Mayor, Steven Meiner continues as a leader in public safety legislation, working tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all Miami Beach residents.
