Insurance

In order to protect the interest of the City of Miami Beach, certain insurance requirements have been set in place and shall be provided by all, Leases, Contractors, Vendors and other persons or organizations who use or provide services to the City. The purpose of this is to obtain assurances that the supplier, vendor or other party will have the financial capacity (insurance funds) to back up the promise or commitments made in the event of a claim.

All vendors, contractors and other parties using the city’s facilities shall, at their own expense, procure and maintain current policies of insurance that protect its own interest and the interest of the City against actions arising out of or resulting from their actions.

Contractual Insurance Requirements

Given the wide range of goods and services acquired by the City of Miami Beach in the fulfillment of our mission, tremendous opportunity exists for vendors to do business with the City. The minimum levels of insurance that a vendor is required to maintain throughout the term of the contract are listed in the insurance requirements attached below:

BTR License Requirements

The insurance requirements for permits and licenses are listed below. Each license or permit type has different insurance requirements depending on what service or business the entity is providing. All license/permits will require workers compensation unless a workers compensation exemption is provided. Also, the City of Miami Beach requires an AM Best Rating of an “A” or higher. If an AM best rating of an “A” is not provided, we will not be able to approve the COI. Please note that the City of Miami Beach must be listed as an additional insured as it pertains to commercial general liability.

BTR-Insurance Requirements

Business Tax Receipts

All business located within the city limits of Miami Beach shall obtain a Business Tax Receipt prior to the commencement of a business with the business tax year beginning each October 1st to September 30th. Before any vendor can be approved for a business tax receipt, they must first submit their business insurance complying with the City of Miami Beach Insurance Requirements.

Special Event Permits

A Special Event is defined as any temporary commercial or private indoor or outdoor event and the event promoter shall provide to the City a certificate of insurance with the following requirements attached below:

The City has made available insurance through the City’s Tenant User’s Liability Insurance Program (“TULIP”) which provides insurance from events ranging from seminars, receptions, weddings, sporting events and concerts.
