— Residents will no longer need to drive out of the city to renew their license or registration—

Miami Beach, FL – Miami Beach residents will very soon be able to save a little gas when they need to renew their driver’s license or registration thanks to an agreement between the City of Miami Beach and the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office. Unanimously approved by the City Commission on Wednesday, July 23, the agreement paves the way for a new satellite tax collector’s office to open by the end of the year in Miami Beach.

“We’re cutting out long drives, reducing wait times, and putting residents first by making local government work better for them,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, who co-prime sponsored the item. “This new full-service office will bring a much broader range of essential county services — including driver’s licenses, property tax payments, and business licenses — directly to our city.”

The City Commission authorized the Miami Beach Redevelopment Agency to finalize lease negotiations on commercial space for the new office at the city-owned Anchor Shops and Garage at 100 16 Street.

“We’re talking about nearly 4,000 square feet of prime space with easy parking, where people can renew driver’s licenses, pay taxes, get business licenses and register vehicles — without having to leave the island,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez, who sponsored the measure. “This partnership with our tax collector is a big win for the convenience of our residents.”

Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernández has pledged to make local government more accessible.

“This office was long overdue in the Miami Beach area,” said Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernández. “For years, residents had to travel long distances to handle real estate transactions or obtain a driver license. Now, they’ll be able to do all of that—and more—right here on the beach. From paying property taxes and renewing vehicle registrations to obtaining a state ID, applying for a hunting or fishing license, and paying local business taxes, essential services will finally be within reach. Thanks to the leadership of Commissioner Alex Fernandez, Mayor Steven Meiner, and the entire City Commission, we’re bringing government closer to the people. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this happen.”
