The Scott Rakow Youth Center was built in 1976 to serve the teens of Miami Beach. It has now grown to serve children and adults of all ages with a variety of recreational activities. The Youth Center is a multi-faceted facility that houses an ice skating rink, outdoor swimming pool, six bowling lanes, gymnasium, arts and crafts center, game room, media room, fitness center, multi-purpose room, music room, and computer lab.  We also offer a variety of classes for children of all ages, adults, and seniors that include: swimming, ice skating, hockey, and sports leagues.

Ice Rink

The Barbara Medina Ice Rink at the Scott Rakow Youth Center is a state of the art 12,885 square foot ice skating rink. Our rink is home to many programs for children and adults that include figure skating, ice hockey, open sessions, private lessons, birthday parties and rentals.

Aquatics

The Scott Rakow Youth Center has a six lane lap swimming pool that is aerated in the summer and heated in the winter to maintain an 82 degree temperature year round. It is home to the Miami Beach Seahawks swim team as well as a variety of learn to swim classes. Lap swimming is also available and locker rooms are conveniently located.

Muss Park

Previously 2,000 square feet, the Muss Park pavilion was constructed to attain LEED gold-certification and is now double its original size. The communal complex features a brand-new office, warming kitchen, storage space, bathrooms and drinking fountains. Equipping park users with a practical activity space, rain or shine, the facility’s large four-fold doors allow the pavilion to operate as both an open-air or air-conditioned space. The handicap-accessible picnic table area and playground further complement the space, providing people of all abilities an opportunity to enjoy the park. Circling the large playing field, the new concrete walkways, updated fencing, fresh swing sets, landscaping and irrigation upgrades add to the park’s functionality and aesthetic. Additionally, the new handicap-accessible playgrounds are separated based on age level, serving as a dedicated space for children ages two through five and five to twelve.

Trails

In the Lummus Park beachfront path that stretches 10 blocks, runners, walkers, cyclists and skaters enjoy refreshing breezes from the Atlantic Ocean. Along Ocean Drive there are also dedicated bike lanes that run north and south available for cyclists.

Lummus Park Leopard Tree

Lummus Park features dimmable LED lighting throughout the park to reduce the amount of light visible from the beach. This protects our native sea turtle population by substantially reducing light pollution in the areas with the highest disorientation incidents during the sea turtle season.

This beautifully landscaped state-of-the-art aquatic facility features two separate pool areas. The main pool features a lap pool (8 lanes at Flamingo, 4 lanes at Normandy) that are aerated in the summer and heated in the winter to maintain a 79 – 84 degree temperature. The water playground is a zero to 15 inch depth interactive/play pool. The aquatic facility offers locker rooms with showers, lounge chairs and sunbrellas. The pools also offer birthday party rentals, learn to swim classes and specialty camps throughout the year.

Bark Park

The bark park consists of two separate dog areas available for your canine family. One area is opened at a time in order to continuously serve the users. The bark park is a social setting for dog owners to let their dogs off leash. Remember, it is a city ordinance to clean up after your pet and maintain them on a leash at all times.

The best in South Florida, home to the Miami Beach High Tides, our local high school, and plays host to the Adult South Florida Baseball League. Several baseball players from Major League Baseball (MLB) train on this magnificently maintained field during the off season.

Flamingo Park’s handball/racquetball courts are one of the oldest and most well-maintained in the country. All (6) four-wall courts and (6) one-wall courts are exterior and available for day and/or night play. Hours subject to change on holidays.

Memorial Football Stadium / Running Track

In 2013, the Flamingo Park football field and track was renovated. Updates include renovation of the bleacher building, press box, restrooms and concession stand in compliance with ADA standards, installation of artificial turf and field drainage to accommodate for football and soccer games and an eight lane running track surfaced with material that is guaranteed to also withstand bikes and roller-blades. This field is used 12-months a year by a wide range of players that includes the Parks and Recreation Department, high school, civic leagues and charitable teams. Several NFL players train on this field during the off season.

Tennis Center

In 2013 renovations to the Flamingo Park Tennis Center were completed. Renovations included demolishing and replacing the existing Tennis Center and 17 tennis courts and installing new lighting, landscaping, irrigation and drainage. The courts were voted “Best of Miami 2009” and features a pro shop. The Tennis Center was once home to the Jr. Orange Bowl Tournament and is currently managed by the City of Miami Beach. Tot Lot / Playground

In December 2005, the Parks and Recreation Department along with GameTime designed this tot lot/playground that benefits the developmental progression of children’s climbing abilities, early social and cognitive development, youth health and fitness. The tot lot/playground was designed to help parents fight the number one threat to their children today-obesity. The amount of equipment was tripled to include a Fit Kid Elementary area with a toddler lot, swing set, and 5-12 year old area that includes a rock climbing wall. This beautifully landscaped and irrigated area also features an original choo-choo train from the 1950’s. Hours subject to change on holidays.
