Resigning, Retiring and Separating from Service
This procedure explains what an employee should do upon electing to separate from service with the City of Miami Beach:
- When resigning or retiring from service, an employee shall send written notification to his/her supervisor at least two (2) weeks in advance of resignation. Timely notice is important to ensure that an employee’s separation from service is recorded in good standing. In accordance with the City’s leave ordinances, payouts of accrued annual and sick leave are paid to employees who are removed or who resign in good standing.
- Contact a member the Human Resources Department to schedule your exit interview. To schedule your exit interview, please dial the main line of the Human Resources Department at extension 27524. During your exit interview with members of the HR Team, the following items will be addressed:
- Returning City-issued property including the City ID badge.
- Eligibility for payout of accrued annual and sick leave.
- Review of tuition reimbursements within the prior two years of service for potential repayment.
- COBRA.
- Retiree health insurance if applicable.
- If you are pension plan participant, please dial your corresponding pension office. Contact information for each of the pension offices has been provided below.
